Victorian Conservatories - The qualifications for the job

From the products we manufacture to the installation and customer services we provide, quality remains the hallmark of John Williams.

We remain one of the few companies to hold the British Standards Institution award for manufacture and customer care.

For even greater assurance, we hold no fewer than four Kitemarks - nationally recognised seals of approval - for the quality of our products and their excellent energy ratings.

And as a member of FENSA, you are safe in the knowledge that our replacement windows and doors comply with the current Building Regulations for both England and Wales.

With our products made, supplied and fitted using in-house resources, we operate stringent quality control and testing at every stage.

In this way, John Williams can maintain such high standards, and reward our customers with the very best service.

Victorian Conservatories - Planning

To build on or change the use of land or buildings, UK law requires you to obtain planning permission. John Williams will assess your location and individual Victorian Conservatory design against current planning policies and guidelines to establish if planning, listed building or conservation consent is required.

Where approval is required, full plans will be prepared and submitted to your local authority by John Williams and we will handle the planning consent process on your behalf.

Depending on your circumstances, you may also require Building Regulations, Building Warrant (Scotland), Water Authority, Estate or Party Wall approvals.

In the unlikely event that you require any of these further approvals, John Williams will expertly handle all the matter on your behalf, so your project proceeds as smoothly as possible.

Failure to obtain the correct approvals could lead to you having to tear down your Victorian Conservatory (at your own expense) and create legal problems when selling your home.

With John Williams you can rest assured you will avoid any of these costly and distressing errors.

Victorian Conservatories - Roofing Options

John Williams offers some of the most advanced roofing materials for your Victorian conservatory, making it one of the most temperate rooms in your home while maintaining its aesthetic appeal.

Our solar glass options achieve this by cleverly reducing unwanted heat gain in summer and minimizing heat loss in winter, ensuring our Victorian conservatories remain comfortable through all seasons.

Or why not select our polycarbonate roofing? In summer its solar protection prevents up to 80% of the sun's energy from entering through the roof. It also reduces glare, lending your conservatory a pleasing ambient light.

In winter your conservatory will be warm and snug, as our polycarbonate roofs ensure that a large proportion of rising heat is radiated back into the room.

Whichever roofing option you choose, by maintaining warmth in the cooler months you are helping to reduce your heating bills and your carbon footprint.

And as with any product from John Williams, your conservatory roof is manufactured and installed to the very highest standards, and enjoys a 10-year guarantee.

Victorian Conservatories - Colour Finishes

Transform your home and create a Victorian conservatory of true distinction with our range of timber-alternative effect products.

An authentic, value-for-money alternative to quality hardwood, an elegant timber alternative conservatory from John Williams will enhance any home. The texture looks and feels like traditional timber. Only by touch can you tell they are high security, virtually maintenance-free UPVC.

We also offer a vast range of colours, certain to suit your tastes or the colour of your existing windows and doors.

The colour coating gives a grained finish and forms an extra protective layer that never needs re-painting. It doesn't chip, crack or flake, and is guaranteed to stay weatherproof for 10 years.

With our range of finishes, furniture and glazing options, create the conservatory design of your choice to add space and value to your home.

Victorian Conservatories - Security

When adding a conservatory, your home's security needs to be an important consideration. A Victorian conservatory from John Williams is extremely secure with many innovative security features.

Our Victorian conservatories incorporate a unique reinforced wall frame that is designed to provide unrivalled levels of security.

The windows and doors in our conservatories meet all British standards due to enhanced security features such as multi-point locking mechanisms and lockable window handles. Our multi-point locking system is endorsed by the police with a Secured by Design award.

All John Williams products are designed and manufactured by us, and rigorously tested to ensure they can withstand attempted break-ins.

In this way we are confident that your new Victorian Conservatory will be safe and secure.

Victorian Conservatories - Glazing Designs

Add elegant flourishes to your John Williams Victorian conservatory to bring sophistication and individuality to your home.

A vast range of subtly coloured, lead and bevelled glass designs are available to enhance your conservatory and create a special, original look.

You can have traditional, diamond or Victorian leaded patterns across the whole of the glass area in the main windows, or simply around the edges to create beautiful visual effects.

Choose full-height glazing, decorative infill panels or base walls - whichever suits the style of your property and garden.

Our strong safety glass can be used in the roof lights, or select polycarbonate roofing on certain models that reduces glare and helps maintain comfortable temperatures. Subtly coloured options provide a more diffused light effect.

Victorian Conservatories - FAQs

Yes, we have a very flexible scheme that offers a range of very convenient and affordable arrangements to fit in with your budget. It’s easy to apply so transforming your home is more affordable using our finance options - click here to find out more about our home finance options.
All conservatories from John Williams are guaranteed for 10 years and you are covered by our excellent standard of customer support.
It all depends on the type of conservatory and the site conditions. We take responsibility for the entire job, giving you peace of mind. We are assessed to British Standards Institution criteria, we ensure every stage of construction is carried out carefully and to the highest standards.
Yes - we use our own fully trained construction team. Just like reputable housebuilders, we will properly lay foundations and construct courses of brickwork up to damp course level. We also lay a strong, insulated base. Then we fix the conservatory framework to the base structure, or to a brick or brick-rendered wall if you choose this design option. Our team take your project from inception to completion, minimising fuss and disruption.
It varies from project to project. John Williams are experts so we will advise and guide you through any permissions required. If you’re not sure call us now on 0800 66 00 55.
All John Williams conservatories are made to measure. Every effort is made to create a conservatory to your requirements and we work with any size, from small porches to extensive grand designs. Restrictions on size and design will usually depend on your chosen style of conservatory and the size of your property, plus any issues with planning permission and building control.
Yes, John Williams is a leading regional manufacturer of UPVC conservatories, garden rooms and orangeries. That’s why we can offer you some of the best products and prices available on the market.
Because we specialise in high grade UPVC, we don't sell conservatories made from wood. However, we do offer a range of realistic woodgrain effect frames and panels that look as good if not better than timber itself.
So with our realistic wood effect conservatories you can achieve the traditional look of timber but without the continual maintenance problems like painting, rotting and warping of real wood.
We are able to offer Pilkington K glass if required. However, our standard sealed units do not contain K glass as the technology has progressed considerably and the new soft coat low e glass is now more efficient. In addition, K glass has slightly brown tint and most customers prefer glass without this.
The A rating system tells you how energy efficient your conservatory glazing is according to the UK-wide BFRC Rating Scheme. This system is recognized within the Building Regulations to show how your conservatory glazing complies with the scheme. The rating scheme is from A to G - with A being the highest rating.
Yes, we can offer you a supply-only service on conservatories, orangeries and garden rooms for orders outside of the UK. However, we are not able to offer a shipping service so you will need to collect your goods from our factory and pay for the goods when you order them. Please contact us on 0800 66 00 55 to discuss your detailed requirements.
John Williams offers one of the widest product ranges available so we can usually provide you with a very close match to your windows and doors. If not, our outstanding range of styles, materials, glass types, colours and designs will enable us to provide you with an attractive alternative.
Yes. FENSA (Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme) ensures replacement windows and doors comply with the current Building Regulations in both England and Wales. When replacing windows and doors, you must obtain a certificate of thermal performance compliance from FENSA or from Local Authority Building Control. FENSA allows John Williams to offer our own compliance certificates – so we do this for you.
Fixing lightweight blinds is fine. However, we recommend you use specialist conservatory blind products so that the integrity of the conservatory framework is minimally affected.
